Reflections

The theme of this project is the story of Ms. Lihwa Lin. When having interviews with her, I was doing the behind-the-scenes footage.

Ms. Lin has been the volunteer for 29 years so I was excited to have interview with her.

On the day of interview, Ms. Lin was quite nervous. We therefore used relaxed tone to eliminate the embarrassment. Although the shooting was not professional, at least we can let the public know that there are some senior volunteers being the crossing guards, rain or shine, and asking for nothing in return.

We had an interview with Auntie Lihwa on December 1st and I therefore understood the importance of voluntary crossing guards.

The essence of being a volunteer is follow through. I think Auntie Lihwa is great because she has being the volunteer for 29 years. Within these 29 years, though she had felt frustrated sometimes but she never gives up.

The reason she became a volunteer was actual quite simple that she was introduced by a lollipop lady.

At the interview, I was in charge of video-taping. It was my first time so I was a little bit nervous. However, I felt so accomplished after it was done. I hope everyone can obey the traffic rule so the voluntary crossing guards will not be so tired. I also hope people can say thanks to them when every time they pass by.

We had an interview with Auntie Lihwa, who has been a volunteer for 29 years, on Dec. 1st. Because my parents are volunteers as well, I knew Auntie Lihwa long time ago. However, through today’s interview, I respect her much more. She is actually doing something risky that standing on the roads and asking for nothing in return. All she wants is the safety of schoolchildren. Not only is she volunteering on crossing guidance, but also leading the new volunteering to get familiar with this job. She is really great! I will say “thank you” loud next time when I see her on duty.

On the day of interview, though I was not the one asking questions I was still kind of nervous since it was my first time doing the video-taping.

When I listened to her answer, I just understand how great she was. She got no pay at all but had to put herself in the risk and sometimes even been treated rudely by the passengers. She is really great.
