Interview with the Director of student affairs

1. What are your thoughts for the Petanque Team at school?

The Petanque Team is a characteristic sport team at our school, and is suitable for every student to participate in. Comparing to normal sport team, there is no restriction on the height or figure, so every student can easily meet the requirement. Also, there is a petanque court at school, so this is an activity that can be continuously promoted to every student to join.

2. Have you played petanque before?

Yes. I think many teachers at school have the same experiences. We arranged teachers to participate in a study activity when the petanque court was just built, so most of the teachers have practical experiences in the petanque court. Every teacher felt that this activity was very interesting, was easy to learn, and produced good interaction with teammates.

3. Do you have anything you want to speak to the Petanque Team?

I hope all players in the Petanque Team can better manage their practicing time every day to improve their skills, so that when they represent school to participate in a competition, they can get excellent results for themselves and for school. They can also save a good memory from their elementary school team experiences.

4. What are the advantages or disadvantages for Xisong Elementary School to develop patanque?

The advantage is that we own petanque court. The disadvantage is that we have many teams such as musical team and other sport teams, plus our student number is decreasing, so the source of students, which are the source of the Petanque Team players, is limited. This is the bottleneck we are facing now. Also, we have not put petanque into our physical education curriculum yet, so students at school do not know it well. We might plan to add it into our physical education curriculum in the future, so that every student has more opportunities to participate in it.

5.  Can the Petanque Team at school be developed to the size as large as the one for the handball team?

Petanque is different from other sports. It does not need that many team members. The handball team at our school or basketball teams at other schools would need more team members. Also, petanque is better for people to participating in with good friends. With one set of equipment and finding a petanque court, you can play petangue together with few good friends on a holiday. On the contrary, it is impossible for a handball player to call other teammates together, and find an opponent to play with your team. Also, we currently have only one petanque court. Even though it can be divided into two competition courts, too many people cannot practice at the same time.

Interview review

We have totally prepared few simple questions, and thoughts that the Director would simply answer these questions, but we were totally wrong. It was unbelievable to me when I started to ask my first question, since for a simple question, the Director fluently answered me in very good details. One simple question took one minute for the Director to answer. The questions designed by Teacher Chuang were hugely different from the answers the Director provided to us. I got my confusion answered from the interview today, and went home with fruitful results.
