Preparations
 ....................................................................
We spent15-20 minutes, allowed by the teacher,
to practice shuttleball during the cleaning-up
time every day. As soon as we learned how
to play shuttleball, we would arrange the
game with the shuttleball team. When the
cleaning-up time starts, we would be excited
and bring the shuttleball to the court.
As everybody was here, we began to serve
each other to practice. If the server kicked
to the targeted one on the opposite side,
the person would try the best to kick it
back. If the server did not kick the shuttleball
off, he/she had to re-serve until the serve
is successful.
Then, we changed the way of practice.
We tossed the ball to each other and threw
it a little higher for easy kicking. If
the opponent kicked back, we would continue
kicking it back. We repeated in the same
way until the ball landed. Failures after
failures, we gradually grasped the skill.
Through the mutual help, some teammates
who could not catch any kick gradually improved,
and could kick the ball back sometimes.
After a period of time on practices,
I think shuttleball is not an easy sport.
We practiced for so long, but we couldn’t
even do serving. Playing shuttleball is
not a simple thing. As Coach You said, “A
technique is learned through 1,300 repeats,
then it could turn a reaction into reflex
action.” “No practice, no yields.” I
think whether for shuttleball or any other
sport, the only tip is “a lot of practices”.
If we continue to practice hard, someday
we will be skillful.
 ....................................................................
Recently, in the cleaning-up time, some
teammates gathered on the shuttleball court
to practice. It’s for the game against
the school shuttleball team. Well, we definitely
will lose anyways.
For the coming game, we practiced hard
instead of giving up. Among five of us,
I played the worst. I couldn’t succeed
in serves all the time. Only a few times,
I accidentally kicked the shuttleball over
the net and the ball landed on the diagonal
spot. Just some of us could play well, kicking
back the ball from the opponents. The rest
of us were not laidback and still worked
out our best to serve.
One time, I followed the advice of a
teammate who told me to wait for the ball
drop lower before kicking. It was a useful
tip, and I kicked a nice serve. It made
me so excited. Sure enough, a lot of practices
worked. I didn’t play well as I couldn’t
grasp the skill quickly. However, I think
if I practice hard enough, I will eventually
catch up with other teammates. I think that
it is easier for the beginner to serve with
the margin of foot. I would always miss
the ball, if I served with my margin of
foot.
