Shuttleball vs. Takraw
  ....................................................................
Alumni Popularize
Takraw
There were some alumni coming back to
Xisong to popularize takraw today. They
are in senior high school and college now.
Due to their enthusiasm for takraw,
they came to teach students at Xisong about
it. They used to play shuttleball
when they were in elementary school, however,
they thought shuttleball was only local
inside Taipei City so they played takraw
instead afterward. They spent
their own money and went to Thailand to
learn takraw. I think they must have
a hard time doing that.
They demonstrated the movements step
by step. After every demonstration,
they let the students practice. Their
demonstration such as “bicycle kick” or
“header” impressed the students very much.
They had lots of patience in teaching
and correcting the students, therefore the
students learned it quite well.
I guess Takraw has more potential
than shuttleball since it is popular in
Thailand and it is one of Asian Games’
items. The shuttleball invented by
Master Min-shou Li has been only played
inside Taipei City so far. Most of
time when people talk about shuttleball,
it refers to the shuttleball played in the
international games. I think we should
popularize our shuttleball in Taiwan first,
and then spread it around the world.
It is a good idea to have the alumni
coming back to teach our students. I
believe when these students graduate, they
will come back to teach the students then.
