Reflections

It has been half year since our research project started from last September to January this year. Recalling the days of the past half year, we think over the research process and the feelings about the research results.

 ....................................................................

Before I participated in the Cyberfair project, I had little sense about shuttleball, and only knew that it was a sport using feet to kick. The ball looked like shuttlecock. As such, I barely knew about shuttleball in the beginning.

My first article “My Knowledge about Shuttleball” in the Cyberfair project was about my superficial understanding of shuttleball and my feelings about that. At that time, I only knew what the shuttleball looked like and the skills of kicking. I knew nothing on the details. Shuttleball is an unpopular sport; those who truly know about it are either the shuttleball players or the researchers.

After I participated in the Cyberfair project, I learned more about shuttleball, and even experienced shuttleball. I learn the details about court scale, game regulation, and rules. After the interviews with the coaches and the teachers, I knew that shuttleball play is a good exercise, using whole body not only feet. That too hard to control the shuttleball’s directions is the only imperfection.

 ....................................................................
Our project last year was about volunteers. We worked very hard on many details for the project, but it just wasn’t the judges’ favorite subject. This time, we figured out the special subject “shuttleball”.

We first did not know much about it, but only that it’s one kind of sport. We interviewed the coaches of Xisong Elementary School. From the interview, we knew many things about shuttleball so we got more sense about it. We also interviewed the players and the elders who had more knowledge of it. That helped us out, too. We did survey at last to find out about the public’s knowledge about shuttleball.

Although shuttleball is popular, even few know about it, more and more people are engaged in it. In Chungcheng Cup this year, more teams in Elementary level entered. Shuttleball is not widespread, but at least more people are willing try it and explore it. I hope our Cyberfair project can facilitate the shuttleball development.

 ....................................................................

The theme of our Cyberfair project is Shuttleball. Under the condition that we were unfamiliar with shuttleball, we searched the information of shuttleball development, its history, and its circumstances all over the places. We interviewed many teachers and coaches, and we learned a lot from that. We also searched online to find out more answers, so that we were getting more knowledge of it.

Shuttleball is unknown to many people, and is not a common sport, so that we did survey with teachers and students to see their impressions on shuttleball. We found that most people knew shuttleball, but some people had never seen or played shuttleball and no idea about the rules. The promotion of shuttleball cannot be done by the public, but the experts and/or those with strong will to promote shuttleball. In addition, the schools with shuttleball team must promote shuttleball and encourage students to keep on going, so that more and more people might play shuttleball.

 ....................................................................

It has been a long time since we started the project, going with sweating but gaining rewards.

Honestly, I thought the topic of “shuttleball” sounds boring for it’s not an interesting sport. Gradually, I found shuttleball not at all boring and it is fun to play it. Then I knew that many people loved and involved in shuttleball.

The number of players in Xisong Elementary Shuttleball Team decreases year by year. If the situation keeps going, it would be possible as a result of dissolution. I think, if Xisong Elementary School includes the shuttleball course into PE and hosts intramural  shuttleball competitions like Tanmei Elementary School does, more students may continue to play, or be interested in it. Let us wish that the development of shuttleball may have a bright future.
